Palace Lady Playing the Flute by a Lotos Pond. Round Fan, Mounted as Album Leaf, ink and colors on silk
One big collector’s seal on the right, hardly discernible. A lady is standing in a pavilion of the palace by a lotos pond and playing the flute. Two tall pines rise across the pond and a fantastic rock with potted plants rise between the lotus.
Old and important European private collection, assembled before 1930 and between 1950 and 1980
The landscape elements are all executed in the decorative blue and green style which was characteristic for Qiu Ying, who was the most popular painter of his time and beyond. Slim and elegant figures of palace ladies were also his hallmark. Especially in the 17th century his style was imitated in innumerable paintings. This one is done especially fine and full of detail. The beautiful colors add to the Elegance of the work
